Today is Marian’s birthday, and she’s marking the occasion in a way I genuinely did not see coming: her very first tattoo, done by our granddaughter Bella. That’s right — Bella is the artist.
And she’s not just any artist. Bella is genuinely talented in her own right, so I’m actually curious to see what she comes up with. There’s something kind of wonderful about that — getting your first tattoo from someone you love who also happens to know what they’re doing with a pen (or, now, a needle).
The Hold-Out
I, on the other hand, have so far declined both the tattoo and the piercing. No ink, no holes. That’s been my position.
But I’ll be honest — that position may be under review. When Marian gets home with a little bit of art on her arm, who knows how I’ll feel. These things have a way of looking more appealing in person than they do in the abstract.
I’ll post a picture when it happens. Stay tuned.
